Facebook is no longer offering that functionality in it’s API. The removed it specifically for the reason you mentioned. The don’t want you to spam other peoples’ pages by tagging them.

ParticipantHi, thanks for the reply. Yes, typing the @username works, but if you’re working with loads of @usernames it’s often difficult to remember them correctly. As such, I often have to have Twitter open too to double check them.
If I could set up a taxonomy called Twitter Usernames (that’s the easy part 🙂 ) and then add the @usernames to that that taxonomy, I’ll then be able to select them when I need them and have them automatically inserted using a %FORMAT% tag.
That’s my thought anyway 🙂
Cheers. Gavin.
Yes, API is a separate product and requires a yearly subscription.

Main Question: Can this product read my posts from my database? Can this product save/read my settings from my database? Can it post to multiple accounts simultaneously? Can I set the delay? Can I set a schedule to automatically repost my messages?
This product is an API. Simply API is a “black box†that you provide with the destination, credentials and message. API will post this message to your destination using your credentials. That’s it, nothing more, nothing less.
You can call it as many times as you like with different destination and credentials ad it will post to different accounts or pages. It’s up you if you would like to save login or not and where you do that. It doesn’t read your messages from the DB, it does not schedule posts or re-posts, it does not do any other functionality. API is a library that you can wrap your own code around.
Our WordPress plugin is a very good example of kind of code could be written around the API.
If you just want to mention people in the post, all you need to do is to type @username in the post. What kind of automation could be here?
%AUTHORTWNAME% will automatically insert authors username.

ParticipantThanks for this – doesn’t this collect just one username from the User settings? If so, that’s not what I’m suggesting 🙂
First, not everyone I’d like to mention would be a registered user.
Second, there are incidences where I’ll want to mention two or more twitter usernames.
Cheers. Gavin.

ParticipantThank you for the response. Suggestion – put this in the sections about setting up Twitter and Facebook accounts. Or maybe set up a new area about how things go on multisite.
