Instagram issues and how to fix them

Alternative Instagram Configuration (February 8, 2018)

It looks like that even with all latest changes and fixes, some people are still having troubles connecting to Instagram. So with SNAP Plugin version 4.1.4 we have introduced an Alternative Instagram Configuration. Please use it if other ways are not working for you.

More changes/issues from Instagram (February 6, 2018)

Instagram made some additional changes to it’s infrastructure Feb 1-5. Those changes were causing some new errors and problems.

  1. “{“message”: “login_required”, “logout_reason”: 2, “status”: “fail”}”
  2. “Logged out. Please try to post again” and “Logged out. Please try to make test post”
  3. “https://www.instagram.com/accounts/login/?next=” issue.
  4. “Infinite Loop” caused by “Your image has been removed”

All those issues has been fixed in the SNAP Plugins 4.1.3 and SNAP API 4.1.8.

Steps to fix:
  1. Please update both plugin and API.
  2. Please try to make a test post.
  3. Most probably you will be asked for security code. Do not enter it yet. Leave the dialog open.
  4. Please open your Instagram on your phone and make sure you don’t have “It was me” or your “Image was removed” warnings. Clear them if you do.
  5. Enter the security code (from your email).
  6. It should be working fine after that.

List of the issues (December 2017):

  1. “checkpoint_required” issue.
  2. “{“message”: “login_required”, “logout_reason”: 3, “status”: “fail”}”
  3. “{“message”: “Bad request”, “status”: “fail”}”
  4. “{“authenticated”: true, “user”: true, “status”: “ok”}”
  5. “{“message”: “login_required”, “error_title”: “You Were Logged Out”, “error_body”: “Please log back in.”, “logout_reason”: 8, “status”: “fail”}”
  6. “{“authenticated”: false, “user”: true, “status”: “ok”} “
  7. [error_type] => sentry_block

Issues and how to fix them:

  1. “checkpoint_required”/”Please enter the code”

    “checkpoint_required”/”Please enter the code” issue.

    It has been fixed in the plugins version 4.1.1 and API 4.0.37. Please update both plugin and API.

    1. Make sure you have SNAP Plugin at least version 4.1.1 and API at least version 4.0.37.
    2. Go to Instagram account settings and click “Send Test Post” button.
    3. Plugin will ask you for a code. “Do not close that window!”. Check your email or phone, get the code, enter it.
    4. It will work fine after that. (Unless you get a different error).

  2. login_required

    “{“message”: “login_required”, “logout_reason”: 3, “status”: “fail”}”

    Fixed in the API 4.0.42.
    1. Make sure you have SNAP Plugin at least version 4.1.1 and API at least version 4.0.42.
    2. Go to Instagram account settings and click “Send Test Post” button.
    3. You will get “You’ve got checkpoint! Please login to Instagram from your phone and confirm the login or action before trying to post again”.
    4. Open Instagram on your phone. (There are much more chances that it will work, if you disable WIFI and do that from LTE/4G/3G/Edge mobile connection). Tap “This was me” button on “We have detected an unusual login attempt” screen.
    5. It will work fine after that. (Unless you are in 5% of the users who are using “bad” hosting provider or got account marked as “spammer”).

  3. Bad request

    “{“message”: “Bad request”, “status”: “fail”}”

    Fixed in the plugin version 4.1.2 and API 4.0.39. No additional steps required.

  4. authenticated: true

    “{“authenticated”: true, “user”: true, “status”: “ok”}”

    Fixed in the API 4.0.38. No additional steps required.

  5. Another login_required error

    {“message”: “login_required”, “error_title”: “You Were Logged Out”, “error_body”: “Please log back in.”, “logout_reason”: 8, “status”: “fail”}

    Fixed in the API 4.0.42. No additional steps required.

  6. authenticated:false issue

    {“authenticated”: false, “user”: true, “status”: “ok”}

    Fixed in the API 4.0.44. No additional steps required.

  7. sentry_block Issue
    [message] => Sorry, there was a problem with your request.

    [status] => fail

    [error_type] => sentry_block

    Instagram recently became much more aggressive in enforcing it’s anti-spam/anti-flood/anti-cheating policy. “sentry_block” error means that your account got on their radar. There are two types of that block and unfortunately Instagram gives no additional info regarding which one you got.

    1. Your posts were reported by people as “SPAM” and your account got blocked. Please try to login to your Instagram from your phone. If you see “There was a problem with your request” message, this is the one you got. Now please try to login from the browser. If you get in, your block is temporary and will be removed after some time. Please re-think your posting strategy to make your posts less spammy. Please use less hashtags and don’t post any kind of unrelated content to any trendy or popular hashtags.

    2. You were abusing the Instagram by posting too much or too fast. Your server IP got banned. We have no additional info if it’s temporary or permanent, so you will need to use proxy. Also please revise your posting speed or quantity of your posts.
